How to Grow
A great way to progress your portfolio, social media page, and skills would be to make videos of recreating sounds from already existing movies, tv shows, or even video games. Again the social media game, and creation of content play a role in a very similar fashion here as I’ve previously mentioned. This won’t only help a foley artist or a film composer to get better at their craft but it will also look nice on a portfolio. So, imagine that you have a decent amount of videos of yourself doing such things like Josh Harmon for example. If you haven’t heard of him before I'd highly recommend you to check out his videos for some inspiration .
Something very interesting that Ben Harris-Hyes said (who has been in the film / audio industry for 20 years) to me in my interview with him is that “ Don’t get disheartened if you have to do a lot of free jobs because it looks great in your showreel and CV.” (19:30) This may be the best way to meet people who you could potentially collaborate with, or work with in the future, as well as put your skills to the test, and see how you perform in a real life situation. This way you have a more accurate representation of where you stand.
